“Shan Chất Tiền” Tea

1. ORIGIN
Screened and developed by the former Tea Research Institute in 1999 from the Ha Giang Shan tea germplasm collection. In 2006 approved for pilot production in Son La, Yen Bai, Ha Giang etc. Conserved in Tea Research and Development Center – one of the members of the National Plant Genetic Resource Network.

2. MAIN CHARACTERISTICS
– Plant with good growth and adaptability to diverse climatic and soil conditions.
– Big tree with many branches, large canopy. Big yellowish green leaves, with 12.9 cm in length, 4.4. cm in width and 9-10 pairs of veins.
– High yield; 5 years old plants yield 10 t/ha; commercially exploited plantations yield 15 – 18 t/ha, and up to 25 t/ha.
– Quality: good. Tannin content is 31.56%, soluble substrates: 38.20%; caffeine: 2.56%; sugar: 2.56%; amine acids: 0.36%. Appropriate for black tea production.
– Good tolerance to drought and high adaptability to diverse conditions.

3. CULTIVATION AND USE
– Propagation: asexually by cutting.
Soils: Fertile soils in highlands in Son La, Yen Bai, Ha Giang and Lao Cai. Cultivable also in lowlands for black tea production.
