Plant Resources Center was founded in accordance to the Point “k”, the Clause “1”, the Article 2 of the Decision No. 220/2005/QD-TTg dated on 9th September 2005 by the Prime Minister of Vietnam on the establishment of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The Center operates as an autonomous research institution under Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
Mandate
Research, invent, collect, conserve, exploit, documentation and use the national plant resources.
Responsibilities
1.Develop and implement research and development programmes, projects and plans, including also oriented-basic ones towards:
– Maintenance and development of the National Plant Genebank;
– Development of strategies and approaches for the conservation, exploitation and sustainable use of plant resources;
– Conservation through use of plant resources; establishment and maintenance of in situ conservation sites; and
– Study of agricultural biodiversity and the evolution and dynamics of plant diversity.
2. Coordinate the National Plant Genetic Resource Network.
3. Cooperate with other national and local research and development institutions in conducting researches, technology development and capacity building.
4. Realize international cooperation in research, technology transfer, training, and exchange of information, experiences and genetic materials.
