Results description of some bio-agricultural characteristics of Tay Ho lotus

    Tay Ho lotus, a precious flower variety, was collected in Nhat Tan, Tay Ho, Ha Noi. In line with the conservation works, description and evaluation of bio-agricultural characteristics of Tay Ho lotus carried out. The results showed that in Tay Ho lotus variety there are 10 distinguished characteristics that is absolutely different to rest of lotus collection, including a dark green leaves, rough leaves surface, 20 to 22 ribs per leaf; leaf-stalk and flower-stalk is light green and thorny; flower bud shape is long oval and obtuse tip, flower is double petal and pink, the torus surface is a flat and seed shape long oval. The description results indicated that Tay Ho lotus flower has 100 petals. The flower petals was divided in 2 layers: outer layer (large petals) and inside layer (small petals) and the the total petals per flower was depended on the number of small petals. The average number of large petals was 16 petals and ranged from 14 to18 and the average number of small petals was 85 petals, ranged from 62 to122. On average, Tay Ho flower has 403 stamens and corresponding to 1.01g lotus rice. Seeds are divided into 3 concentric circles on torus: the first one from 1 to 5seeds, the the second one from 5 to 10 seeds and the third one from 10 to 17 seeds. The size of Tay Ho physiological maturity and fresh seeds were fairly uniform with rate of length/width seed was 1.5 times.
