Evaluating the baterial leaf blight (Xanthomonas oryzae) and rice blast (Pyricularia oryzae) resistant in the local varirties at national genbank

Bacterial leaf blight (Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae) and rice blast (Pyricularia oryzae) are two major diseases caused reduction of rice production in the world in general and Vietnam in particular. Screening of 239 local varieties from PRC for the bacterial leaf blight and rice blast showed that with bacterial isolate I (group ND) with highly resistant, resistantand susceptable varieties were 0; 14 (5.86%) and 225 (94.14%), respectively; With isolates II (group B), 1 resistant variety namely Nep thom (1778), 16 ninor resistant varieties and 223 susceptable varieties accounted for 0.42%; 6.7% and 93.3%, respectively. Screening of rice blast resistance (strain 757.6) showed that 46 resistant varieties occupied 19.24% and 193 susceptable occupied 80.76% were identified. The Ble blu (2127) and Play Trong Ru Tu (2101) varieties were moderately resistant to bacterial leaf blight and highly resistant to blastdisease. Local varieties resistant to bacterial leaf blight and rice blast are important sources for breeding new resistant varieties in breeding programs
